Fire Breaks Out Near Gas Stations in Osogbo, Osun State
A fire broke out in the Old Garage area of Osogbo, Osun State, triggering panic among residents and drawing an emergency response from the Federal Fire Service.
The incident, which occurred in one of the city's busier commercial corridors, raised immediate alarm because of its proximity to two gas stations in the area. Firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze before it could spread further.
The Federal Fire Service's Osun State Command confirmed the incident when contacted by journalists.
"Yes, it is true. The fire investigative department is there," a spokesperson said.
As of the time of this report, no official statement had been released regarding the cause of the fire. Casualty figures had also not been confirmed.
Fires in densely populated Nigerian urban neighborhoods carry an elevated risk, particularly when they occur near fuel retail points. The combination of residential activity, market commerce, and fuel infrastructure creates conditions where a localized blaze can escalate rapidly.
The Old Garage axis in Osogbo is a known transit and commercial hub within the state capital, which adds to the concern about how quickly emergency services need to respond in such environments.
Investigators from the Federal Fire Service were already on the ground, suggesting that a formal assessment of the fire's origin and scope is underway.
The Federal Fire Service is expected to release a report once its investigative team completes its assessment of the scene. Key questions include what ignited the fire, whether the nearby gas stations were affected or posed an additional risk, and the extent of property damage.
Residents in the surrounding area have been urged to stay clear of the scene while the investigation continues.
