FRSC Deploys 2,500 Personnel For Osun Election

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed its FRSC Osun election deployment, sending 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles across the state ahead of Saturday's governorship election.

In a statement issued Friday and signed by Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the FRSC said its personnel have been positioned across all three senatorial districts to keep traffic moving and enable a swift emergency response throughout the election.

"We have deployed personnel across the three senatorial districts to ensure smooth traffic flow, quick emergency response and safe movement during the election. The deployment includes 2,300 officers from the Osun Sector Command, supported by 50 personnel each from Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun," the Corps said.

The vehicle fleet includes:

• 50 operational vehicles positioned at key locations statewide
• Six ambulances for emergency medical response
• Seven heavy-duty tow trucks for rescue and recovery operations

According to the Corps, the deployment is meant to keep roads safe and accessible for security personnel, accredited observers, election officials, and everyday road users before, during, and after voting.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the effort reflects the Corps' broader commitment to a credible, peaceful election.

"We are deploying our personnel as part of our commitment to supporting a peaceful and credible election, while ensuring road safety and effective traffic management throughout the electoral process," Mohammed said.

He added that personnel are expected to work with firmness, professionalism, and neutrality throughout the exercise, coordinating closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies while respecting human rights standards.

The FRSC also said vehicles used by fleet operators to transport election materials will be inspected and certified as roadworthy before deployment.

The FRSC Osun election deployment is only part of a far bigger security buildup across the state. The Nigeria Police Force alone has deployed more than 15,000 personnel and 30 Commissioners of Police, backed by aerial surveillance including a helicopter and drone units. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has sent over 10,000 personnel, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has added roughly 100 officers, bringing combined security numbers well past 25,000 before accounting for military and DSS deployment.

Authorities have also confirmed the state will effectively be locked down from midnight Saturday, with vehicular movement restricted to essential duties, security operations, and voters heading to cast their ballots.

With enforcement vehicles set to roll out from 6:00 a.m. on election day, the FRSC is urging motorists and transport operators to plan ahead.

"The restriction of movement will be strictly enforced in designated areas, with enforcement vehicles deployed from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday and personnel stationed at strategic locations across the state. We urge motorists, transport operators and other road users to plan their journeys ahead and avoid restricted routes during the election," the FRSC said.
