7 Dead, Over 150 Houses Razed in Tragic Benue, Bandits Attack.
In a devastating attack on Aila village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, seven people were killed and more than 150 houses were destroyed. The community was attacked on Sunday by militia groups from Egba, Abugbe, Omikwidi, Akwu, and Ogbaulu communities, despite there being no known conflicts between these groups and the villagers.
Chief Dauda Ikwulono, the Adagole G’ Alia Agatu, reported that the residents were in their homes when the attackers struck. Despite prior warnings to the authorities, including the Governor of Benue State, about potential attacks on Aiia, Odejo, and Okokolo villages, no preventive measures were taken.
Chief Ikwulono urged security agencies and Governor Hyacinth Alia to intervene and protect the people of Aila. Among the victims were retired Corporal Augustine Adikwu, his wife Lucy, and five other residents.
The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the urgent need for effective measures to protect vulnerable communities from such violent incursions.
