JAMB Uncovers 3,000 Fake Graduates in Nigeria's Tertiary Institutions.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has discovered three thousand fake graduates who never attended a postsecondary institution.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, disclosed this during a meeting with the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities leadership. A report printed in the board bulletin included meeting specifics. The bulletin quoted Oloyede as saying: "Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system, but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases. Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation."
Over the years, JAMB has shown interest in and concern for the problem of unauthorized admissions. The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education had mandated that JAMB submit a list of postsecondary schools that engaged in irregular and unlawful admissions practices in December 2023. Candidates were previously cautioned by the test organization not to accept admission offers from these kinds of colleges unless they fully participated in the academic programme.
