Concealing a Child Defilement Case is a Criminal Offense, Says Delta Police PRO.
Parents have been strongly cautioned by SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, about the repercussions of hiding child defilement cases.
Edafe stated that it is illegal for a parent to hide a defilement case in a post that was published on his X handle.
He posted; “A sexual intercourse with either a boy or a girl under the age of 13 years is defilement, and the punishment if found guilty is life imprisonment. Section 218 CC. In this case, consent is immaterial and such offenses can’t be compounded. So, going to court and swearing to an affidavit won’t work. In fact, any parent who tries to cover defilement could be charged to court for aiding and abetting.”

The Nigerian Criminal Code states that anyone found guilty of a felony and facing life in prison, with or without caning, is someone who participates in illicit carnal knowledge of a minor under the age of thirteen.
