Wike Authorizes 3,592 FCT Employees As Candidates for Promotion

Thousands of civil servants in Abuja just got some good news, and it came with a promise of more to come.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the promotion of 3,592 FCT civil servants, following the successful completion of the 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

Emeka Ezeh, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, announced the outcome, describing the process as a demonstration of the administration's commitment to staff welfare.

According to Ezeh, the exercise followed a clear timeline:

  • Senior officers sat for promotion examinations between July 1 and July 3
  • Junior staff wrote theirs on July 10
  • The exercise was completed successfully and without disruption

The Wike FCT civil servants' promotion comes as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu's third anniversary in office, a period that has also seen the commissioning of over 30 infrastructure projects across the territory between June 8 and July 17.

Ezeh revealed that Wike has directed the commission to begin the 2026 promotion exercise immediately, aiming to prevent unnecessary delays for staff who qualify for advancement.

"Under this administration, it is a priority that FCT workers get promoted as and when due. This is to complement the tremendous work that the FCT Minister is doing in infrastructural development of the Territory, and for us, the workers will not be left out in the celebrations marking the third anniversary of Mr President," Ezeh said.

He explained that the decision reflects a broader effort to make sure civil servants also benefit directly from the territory's ongoing development, not just the physical projects reshaping the city.

Ezeh commended FCT workers for their orderly and peaceful conduct throughout the 2025 exercise, and urged those preparing for the 2026 round to maintain the same level of professionalism and discipline.

He also credited the Joint Union Action Committee for its cooperation, noting that it contributed to how smoothly the exercise was carried out.
