Afrobeats Star Rema Donates ₦105 Million to Christ Embassy Church in Benin
Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has donated ₦105 million to a Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State, in gratitude for the church’s support to his family following his father’s death. The artist made the donation on Sunday, September 1, 2024, after being called on stage.
Rema expressed his appreciation for the church’s leadership and encouragement, stating, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, and prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”
He detailed his pledges, announcing ₦40 million for the church's infrastructure, ₦20 million for the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and ₦25 million for the infrastructure of the teen’s church, reflecting his own upbringing in the church’s youth ministry. Additionally, he pledged ₦20 million to support widows in the church.
Reflecting on his past, Rema shared, “When I was eight years old when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone. I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum, and that was how she managed to take care of us.”
Currently on tour in his home state of Edo, Rema is set to perform at a highly anticipated concert. He arrived in Benin on Tuesday and attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-seat Edo Arena, named in his honor by Governor Godwin Obaseki. As part of his tour, Rema also paid homage to Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, at his palace.
