Peter Obi Criticizes Tinubu Administration Over Petroleum Shortage and NNPCL Operations
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has attributed Nigeria’s current petroleum shortage to what he describes as the incompetence of the Tinubu-led administration. Obi made these remarks in a message posted on his X account on September 3.
Obi expressed concerns about the transparency of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), claiming that Nigerians are unaware of the contradictory statistics regarding its revenue and debt profile. He urged citizens to seek the truth about the NNPCL’s financial situation and its impact on the country's petroleum supply.
Highlighting additional issues, Obi pointed to the $20 billion Dangote Refinery and other modular refineries struggling to secure crude oil supplies as further evidence of what he termed “gross incompetence” by the current administration. He also criticized NNPCL’s search for external operators to manage its refineries, suggesting it reflects deeper operational challenges.
Obi’s statements reflect ongoing debates about the management of Nigeria’s petroleum sector and the broader implications for the country’s economy. His comments have sparked discussions about the need for transparency and accountability within the industry.
