119 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition Found Hidden in a Sack Near Cemetery in Gombe State

The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a white sack beneath a tree near Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area. The discovery was made on the morning of May 19, 2026, following a tip-off received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The Gombe police ammunition discovery Kwadon 2026 has prompted an immediate increase in surveillance and monitoring across the area as investigators work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the cache.

According to a statement by state command spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi, credible information indicated that a suspicious white sack had been concealed beneath a tree directly across the road from a cemetery. The Divisional Police Officer responded quickly, dispatching a team of operatives to the scene.

Upon examination, the sack was found to contain 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.

Operatives immediately cordoned off the surrounding bushes and adjacent areas following the discovery. No suspects were apprehended at the scene.

The inclusion of moringa seeds alongside the ammunition is an unusual detail that investigators will likely examine closely. Whether it points to a specific individual, a local trader, or a deliberate attempt to obscure the cache's purpose is part of what the ongoing investigation will need to determine.

The Gombe police ammunition discovery Kwadon 2026 has not yet produced any arrests. However, DSP Abdullahi confirmed that the Command has significantly ramped up monitoring and surveillance in the Kwadon area while the investigation continues.

The swift response from the time the tip was received to the time the sack was recovered and the perimeter secured reflects the kind of community-informed policing that Commissioner of Police Bello Yahaya specifically highlighted in his response to the find.

Yahaya commended members of the public for providing timely information and urged residents across Gombe State to remain vigilant, describing community intelligence as a critical tool in reducing insecurity and protecting lives and property throughout the state.

That commendation is more than ceremonial. A cache of 119 live rounds sitting beneath a tree near a cemetery on a public road is the kind of threat that gets neutralized only when someone notices something and says something. In this case, someone did.

The investigation is ongoing. Residents with information are encouraged to contact the Gombe State Police Command through official channels.
