Windstorm Fells 13 Electricity Poles, Cutting Power Across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna Communities

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced power outages affecting communities in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states following a powerful windstorm that brought down thirteen electricity poles along key feeder lines. The company confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday and said repair work is already underway.

The KEDCO power outage windstorm Kano Katsina Kaduna disruption has left multiple communities without electricity, with restoration timelines dependent on how quickly the damaged infrastructure can be replaced.

According to KEDCO, the following areas are currently experiencing power interruptions as a direct result of the storm damage:

In Kano State: Rogo, Sundu, Falgore, Tudun Wada, Saya Saya, Kadawa, and Hago localities. In Katsina State: Dandume. In Kaduna State: Ikara.

All thirteen poles that were brought down served feeder lines supplying power to these communities. Until those poles are replaced and the lines restored, affected residents will remain without supply.

"The windstorm damaged 13 electricity poles along affected feeder lines, resulting in power interruption in the affected areas," the company stated.

KEDCO expressed regret to residents for the inconvenience and assured communities that repair teams have been mobilized to restore supply as quickly as possible. No specific restoration timeline was provided in the statement.

Power infrastructure in northern Nigeria, as in many parts of the country, remains vulnerable to extreme weather events. Electricity poles along rural and semi-urban feeder lines are particularly exposed, often aging and without the structural reinforcement needed to withstand high-velocity winds.

A single windstorm taking out thirteen poles across a wide geographic spread is not unusual in that environment. What matters now is how quickly KEDCO can get those communities back on supply, particularly in areas where residents depend on electricity for water pumping, refrigeration, and small business operations.

Affected residents are advised to stay clear of downed poles and damaged lines and to report any hazardous electrical infrastructure in their vicinity to KEDCO immediately.
