JAMB Releases 279 Previously Withheld UTME Results, Cancels Others Over Proven Malpractice

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released 279 results that were previously withheld pending further investigation, the board announced in a statement on Thursday. The release adds to an earlier batch of results already made public, as JAMB continues to work through cases flagged during and after the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The JAMB withheld UTME results released update is part of an ongoing review process that has seen the board separate candidates with no case to answer from those where evidence of malpractice was established.

The board's approach has been two-tracked. Where investigations found no prima facie case against a candidate, meaning no sufficient initial evidence of wrongdoing, results have been released. Where proof of malpractice was confirmed, results have been outright cancelled.

That distinction matters. Not every withheld result was withheld because of guilt. Some candidates were caught up in flags triggered by the examination centre they sat in, rather than anything they personally did.

Results from centres where JAMB's live monitoring team observed suspicious activity or received negative reports are still being held back while investigations continue. The board was clear that any result in that category will be cancelled if sufficient evidence of guilt is established.

JAMB has provided a straightforward way for candidates to check whether their result has been released.

Candidates whose results are still pending should send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number they registered with during the examination process.

"Candidates whose results have not yet been released are advised to check their status by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used for registration to view their released results," JAMB stated.

If your result is not yet showing, it does not automatically mean it has been cancelled. It may still be under active review.

The 2026 UTME cycle has been one of the more scrutinized in recent memory, with JAMB's live monitoring infrastructure flagging a significant number of centres for suspicious activity. The board's willingness to withhold and investigate before releasing, rather than simply publishing all results and dealing with complaints afterward, reflects a more methodical approach to exam integrity.

The JAMB withheld UTME results released announcement is a step forward, but for candidates still waiting, the process is not over. The board has signaled that further releases and further cancellations are both still possible as investigations conclude.

If you are in that category, check your status now using the codes provided. And if your result has been cancelled, JAMB's official channels remain the appropriate route for any queries or appeals.
