Driver Arrested After Lexus Kills Two Police Officers in Osun State
A suspect identified as Adegoke Tee has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in Oogi hamlet, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, that killed two police officers on Wednesday. The arrest was confirmed on Friday by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command.
The two officers killed were Corporal Oluwatobiloba Odedina and Kehinde Adeleke. They were on their way home from an official assignment when a Lexus car struck them. Both died at the scene.
There is something about that detail that stays with you. They were not on patrol. They were not responding to a crisis. They were going home, the way anyone goes home after work, and they did not make it.
The collision alarmed residents of the community and drew a crowd almost immediately. According to sources familiar with the incident, the driver did not stay at the scene. He allegedly fled, leaving the car behind, to avoid being attacked by the angry mob that had gathered following the crash.
Running from a mob is one thing. Running from the police is another. The Osun State Command launched a manhunt immediately after the incident, and within two days, Adegoke Tee was in custody.
"One Adegoke was arrested and the matter was transferred to the Traffic Unit in Osogbo," Ojelabi confirmed.
The case now sits with the Traffic Unit. What charges will be filed, and under what legal framework the prosecution will proceed, has not yet been announced by the Command. The full circumstances of the crash, including speed, road conditions, and whether any traffic violations were involved, have also not been made public.
What is confirmed is this: two police officers are dead, a suspect is in custody, and a community in Ayedaade is still processing a Wednesday that none of them expected.
Corporal Odedina and Adeleke were not statistics before they became a news story. They were officers heading home. That is worth remembering as the legal process moves forward.
The investigation continues.
