8 Killed in Plateau Village Attack Amid Rising Tension
An attack in Mbwelle, a community in Kwatas District of Bokkos Local Government Area, of Plateau State has left at least eight residents dead in what authorities describe as a fresh wave of violence in the region.
According to security sources, the attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. on April 9.
The Plateau village attack reportedly involved armed assailants who struck quickly and disappeared before help could arrive.
The victims have been identified as:
- Habila Istifanus (38)
- Hassan Istifanus (31)
- Sunday Gideon (31)
- Iliya Mangut (70)
- Innocent Banabas (20)
- Lucky Titus (38)
- Wisdom Lucky (15)
- Bwehsun Hassan (25)
A report shared by Zagazola Makama, a security and counterinsurgency analyst, brought early attention to the incident.
Security operatives said they responded to a distress call but were unable to intercept the attackers, who had already fled the area.
The Plateau village attack response was reportedly delayed due to the distance between the military base and the community, estimated at about 15 kilometers, as well as difficult terrain.
All victims, including those injured, were taken to Bokkos Cottage Hospital.
In the aftermath of the Plateau village attack, troops have launched operations to track down those responsible.
Still, beyond the numbers, there’s something heavier sitting underneath all of this.
These are small communities. People know each other. Loss like this doesn’t stay contained, it spreads through families, through memory, through everything.
And the question keeps coming back.
How many times can a place endure this before something truly changes?
For now, Mbwelle mourns, while security forces continue efforts to prevent another night like this.
