NAFDAC Busts Two Fake Alcohol Factories in Lagos, Seizes Goods Worth N350 Million

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down two illegal facilities producing adulterated and counterfeit alcoholic beverages in Lagos State, seizing goods valued at approximately N350 million.

The agency disclosed the operation through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the enforcement action was based on credible intelligence about the activities of the syndicates involved.

During coordinated raids at Zamfara Plaza in the Trade Fair Complex and several other locations on Lagos Island, NAFDAC operatives recovered more than 1,800 cartons of counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

At the Trade Fair Complex, officials found makeshift filtration systems, plastic mixing tanks, empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials used in the production and packaging of the fake beverages.

In a separate operation on Lagos Island, one suspect was arrested in connection with the illegal manufacture and distribution of counterfeit alcohol through a retail outlet. All recovered items were seized and taken away for further regulatory action, the agency said.

NAFDAC warned that adulterated alcoholic beverages pose serious health risks, including organ damage, poisoning, and death.
