Makurdi Court Remands Two Over Farm Attack

The Federal Government has taken a major step toward rolling out a national food assistance program Nigeria, aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and improving nutrition across the country.

According to a statement published on April 12, 2026, via the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, a steering committee has been established to oversee the program’s nationwide implementation.

The committee, tasked with coordinating the initiative, held its first meeting in Abuja, signaling the beginning of what could become a large-scale intervention.

The national food assistance program Nigeria is expected to:

  • Strengthen community-level food support systems
  • Address malnutrition across all regions
  • Improve access to basic nutrition for vulnerable groups

Speaking during the meeting, Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, emphasized the urgency of real impact over bureaucracy.

“This Committee must ensure that implementation is not only coordinated, but effective. This is not about meetings, but about results that improve the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The national food assistance program Nigeria is designed to reach all 774 local government areas, making it one of the most ambitious food support initiatives in recent years.

The program is linked to a broader vision championed by Oluremi Tinubu, focusing on building sustainable food and nutrition systems at the grassroots level.

To ensure wide coverage and effectiveness, the committee includes representatives from:

  • Health sector agencies
  • Ministry of Agriculture
  • Ministry of Women Affairs
  • Humanitarian and social development bodies

This multi-sector approach is intended to ensure that the national food assistance program Nigeria does not operate in isolation, but rather as part of a coordinated national effort.

As the national food assistance program Nigeria begins to take shape, the committee will focus on:

  • Monitoring progress across states
  • Ensuring collaboration between agencies
  • Tracking outcomes, especially among at-risk populations

The Federal Government has also announced that the official launch of the program will take place in Borno State later in April.
