Guns, Charms, and a Watchlist: How Oyo Police Broke Up an Alleged Cult Meeting Inside Polytechnic Ibadan
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested sixteen people suspected to be members of the Aiye Confraternity, following a coordinated operation inside the premises of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
According to a statement released by the command's Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, police acted on credible intelligence indicating that the group was planning a critical meeting within the institution's grounds. The State Commissioner of Police personally led a team of operatives to the identified location, described as an alleged temple on campus.
The operation was executed with precision and professionalism. Among those arrested were fourteen males and two females, bringing the total to sixteen suspects.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made cut-to-size guns, two English pistols, sixteen live cartridges, four axes, and assorted charms.
The names of those arrested, as released by the command, include Olusoji Pelumi, also known as Lumi; Fatoki Sunday, alias Cwise, identified as Chief Carrier; Gbenga Opatunbi, alias Opa, identified as Chief Aza; Olami Lekan Lateef Michael, named as Finance; Olaniyi Oyedeji; Olaoluwa Sunday; Okedokun Olayemi; Sulaiman Oyewole; Moshood Abdullahi; Faruk Olosogunro; Oyegbori Ibrahim; Bello Olalekan; Amusan Emmanuel; Babatunde Abeeb; Mustapha Omotola Kafilat; and Balogun Roqibat.
In the statement, Ayanlade noted that the suspects had been anticipated. "During the course of the operation, a total of sixteen (16) suspects comprising fourteen (14) males and two (2) females were arrested at and around the venue. Preliminary investigation reveals that some of the suspects had been on the command's watchlist for their alleged involvement in a series of murder cases and cult-related activities within the state," he said.
Investigation into the matter is ongoing, the command confirmed.
