UniJos Confirms Death of 2 Students After Jos Attack
The University of Jos students killed update has left the academic community grieving, as the institution confirmed the loss of two students following recent attacks in Plateau State.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Tanko Ishaya, during a briefing on the impact of the violence on the university community.
According to him, five members of the institution were affected, including four students and one staff member.
The University of Jos students killed include:
- Adeyomo Oluwafemi Temitope, a 500-level Quantity Surveying student
- Abel Joro Gershon, a 300-level Building student
Temitope was reportedly shot on April 1 along Bauchi Road, outside the campus.
Gershon, on the other hand, sustained serious injuries during the Angwan Rukuba incident and later died on April 5 at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
The University of Jos students killed case continues to unfold, with three other victims currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed condolences on behalf of the institution, extending sympathies to the families of the deceased and residents of the Angwan Rukuba community.
He also provided reassurance on steps being taken moving forward.
According to him, academic activities have resumed across all campuses as of Tuesday, with enhanced security measures now in place.
Still, there’s an uneasiness that lingers. Because when students lose their lives not far from where they learn, it forces a difficult question. How safe is safe enough?
