Cabinet Exits for Campaign Trails: Two Adamawa Commissioners Step Down With Eyes on 2027
Two commissioners have stepped down from the Adamawa State Executive Council, with both citing plans to seek elective office in the 2027 general elections.
The affected commissioners are Chief Felix Tangwami, who served as Commissioner for Health and Human Services, and Tijjani Maksha, his counterpart in the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture Development. Their resignations take immediate effect.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a State Executive Council meeting at Government House in Yola, presided over by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya, confirmed the development to journalists.
Tangwami has since moved quickly on his political ambitions. He officially declared his intention to contest the Adamawa governorship seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he is in the race to consolidate progress, strengthen unity, and build a more prosperous future for the people of the state.
At a press conference in Yola, Tangwami said his years of service in different leadership positions during both the military and civilian eras had equipped him with the skills, competence, and experience needed to take Adamawa forward.
The position Maksha intends to contest has not been officially disclosed at the time of this report. Investigations are ongoing.
