Army Arrests 10 Suspected Terrorists, Rescues 3 Kidnap Victims Across FCT, North-Central
Nigerian Army personnel have arrested 10 suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnap victims across the Federal Capital Territory and the North-Central region in a series of coordinated internal security operations.
The Army disclosed this in an operational report released on Wednesday in Abuja.
In the FCT, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and the Office of the National Security Adviser tracking unit apprehended two suspected terrorists at a snap checkpoint in Abaji during Operation MESA. The suspects were intercepted while traveling in a commercial vehicle from Asaba to Kaduna and have since been detained for further investigation.
In Benue State, soldiers conducting fighting patrols under Operation WHIRL STROKE arrested two suspected terrorists in Gwer West Local Government Area. Two motorcycles were also recovered during the operation.
Further operations in Nasarawa State led to the arrest of six suspected terrorists and drug dealers in the Karshi area of Karu Local Government Area. The Army said the arrests were based on actionable intelligence, and that troops recovered ammunition, a locally made weapon, and other items from the suspects, who remain in custody.
On the anti-kidnapping front, the Army recorded additional successes in Benue State.
"Troops also recorded successes in anti-kidnapping operations in Benue, where swift response to distress calls forced kidnappers to abandon their victims and flee.
"At Mbakange in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, one kidnapped victim was rescued and handed over to the police, while two others were freed during a separate operation in Agidi, Konshisha Local Government Area," it said.
The Army stated that troops remain focused on sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across the country.
