Bandits Attack Immigration Post, Abduct Officer in Niger
A fresh security scare has emerged in Niger State after armed attackers reportedly stormed an immigration outpost and abducted an officer in broad daylight.
The incident has renewed concerns about the security situation along border communities where residents and security personnel continue to face repeated threats. Here is what has been reported so far about the Niger immigration officer abducted case.
Armed attackers reportedly ambushed a Nigeria Immigration Service outpost in Balia village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to local sources, the Niger immigration officer abducted during the attack was identified as Umar Yusuf.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday when the attackers arrived on motorcycles and launched the assault on the outpost.
Sources said the security personnel stationed at the facility were overpowered during the operation.
Reports indicate that the attackers also seized two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition from personnel at the outpost.
The post is said to be located along Babanna Road, close to the border with the Benin Republic.
The Niger immigration officer abducted case has drawn further attention to the vulnerability of security posts operating in high-risk border areas.
Local sources say Babanna Road has for years remained a hotspot for armed attacks and insecurity.
Residents and travellers in the area have frequently raised concerns about bandit activity and the dangers associated with movement along the route.
The Niger immigration officer abducted incident is the latest in a series of reported security breaches linked to the area.
Attention has also returned to an earlier incident in November 2025 involving a convoy linked to Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, the member representing Agwara and Borgu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
According to reports, bandits attacked the convoy while it was traveling to Babanna in Borgu Local Government Area.
The attack reportedly led to the deaths of two soldiers, while several other civilians and security personnel were said to have been injured.
That earlier attack had already raised alarm about the worsening security situation in the corridor.
