One Dead, Six Injured in Bus Crash Along Oworonsoki–Apapa Expressway

A road accident at New Castle Bus Stop near Gbagada along the Oworonsoki–Apapa Expressway in Lagos has claimed the life of a female passenger and left six others seriously injured.

The incident was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday, March 8, by Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

According to the statement, the accident occurred over the weekend when a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSD 654 XY reportedly lost control and crashed into a roadside culvert along the expressway.

Taofiq explained that the impact of the crash threw a female passenger out of the vehicle onto the roadway.

In the aftermath of the collision, an oncoming articulated trailer was reportedly unable to stop in time and ran over the passenger, leading to her death at the scene.

Six other occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained serious injuries, with some reported to have suffered multiple fractures.

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit later evacuated the remains of the deceased, while emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service transported the injured victims to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the cause of the crash.
