Police Detain 15-Year-Old Over Alleged Killing of Guardian in Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has detained a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, over the alleged killing of his guardian, identified as Akanbi, in Ilorin.

The incident was disclosed on Friday by the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, during a press briefing at the command headquarters.

According to the police chief, officers received a distress call reporting that the woman had been discovered lying in a pool of blood inside her residence.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect, who reportedly lived with the deceased after she adopted and raised him, carried out the attack while the woman was taking a bath.

Police said the teenager allegedly hid behind a door before launching the assault using various household items.

Items recovered from the scene include a kitchen spatula, a frying pan, a weighing scale, and knives believed to have been used during the attack.

Ojo further stated that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to the act and claimed he carried it out because he harboured resentment toward the deceased.

According to investigators, the boy allegedly changed his clothes after the incident and left the house under the pretense of running an errand. Reports indicate that he later contacted the deceased’s husband, who returned home and discovered his wife dead.

The commissioner confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations into the incident continue.
