Clash in Sokoto Village Leaves Five Dead
A violent overnight attack in a Sokoto community has left several people dead after a confrontation between suspected bandits and local vigilantes.
Residents of Bargaja village woke up to panic and uncertainty following the early morning gunfight. Local leaders and security officials later moved in to calm the community as details of the incident began to emerge.
Three suspected bandits and two vigilantes were reportedly killed during a gunfight in Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Sources said the Sokoto bandit attack Bargaja village began in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 1:30 a.m.
According to local accounts, the attackers reportedly entered the village through an isolated route in an attempt to avoid detection.
Some of the suspected bandits were said to have hidden in trees near the local cemetery, while others moved toward a house located on the outskirts of the village.
The attackers reportedly encountered vigilantes stationed in the area.
According to a source familiar with the situation, a gunfight soon followed.
During the confrontation:
• One vigilante was reportedly killed at the early stage of the clash
• Other vigilantes responded and opened fire
• Three suspected bandits were later reported dead during the exchange
Sources also stated that another vigilante who had taken shelter inside a house was pursued and killed by the attackers.
The two vigilantes who lost their lives were identified as Umar Ibrahim and Abubakar Abdullahi.
Residents reported that the attackers abandoned their motorcycles at a distant location before approaching the village.
After the clash, sources said the group fled the area and allegedly used a donkey to transport the bodies of those killed among them.

Community leaders, including the village chief and local security coordinators, reportedly intervened to reassure residents and prevent panic from spreading further.

Security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the area as investigations into the incident proceed.
