Bandits Kill Two Elderly Brothers in Katsina Village Attack
Two elderly brothers have been killed by armed bandits in the Doguwar Ɗorawa community, Guga ward, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims, identified as Alhaji Bishir and his brother, Alhaji Surajo, were community leaders reportedly slaughtered during the late-night attack on Tuesday, November 5, 2025.
Despite the state government’s much-publicized “peace accord” with bandit groups, the incident adds to the growing list of violent assaults on rural settlements in the Bakori area.
Speaking with Premium Times on Wednesday, Mahadi Danbinta Guga, a respected leader in the Guga community, confirmed the killings.
“We had a gruesome attack yesterday. Doguwar Ɗorawa lost two of their most influential elders — Alhaji Bishir and his brother, Alhaji Surajo. They were slaughtered, not shot,” he said.
He explained that the assailants invaded the community around 10 p.m. and operated for over an hour.
“I’m heading to the village to confirm the casualty figures and oversee the burial of the deceased elders,” he added, noting that several residents were abducted during the attack.
Locals believe the perpetrators are linked to notorious bandit leaders “Idi Abasu Aiki” and “Kwashen Garuwa,” both known for terrorizing Bakori and neighboring communities.
“They parked their motorcycles in the bush and trekked to the village to unleash mayhem,” Mr. Guga said, describing the assault as “gruesome.”
He lamented that despite ongoing government talks with armed groups, the violence persists.
“It’s become normal for bandits here. Hardly a day passes without an attack — despite the so-called peace deal,” he said.
On the same night, another nearby settlement, Layin ‘Yannehu, was attacked, and several sheep were reportedly stolen.
