Jigawa Police Crack Down on Vehicle and Motorcycle Theft

In Jigawa State, the fight against auto theft and motorcycle theft is seeing real progress. The State Police Command has reported several recent breakthroughs that highlight the success of coordinated security efforts across the state.

According to Police Spokesperson SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, officers from the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and the Safer Highway Patrol Team in Ringim intercepted a white Toyota Hilux on November 7, 2025. The vehicle, bearing registration number ABS 16 MR, belonged to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and had been reported stolen from Dutse Metropolis.

The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes when he saw the patrol team. Police say the vehicle has since been recovered and secured while efforts continue to locate the suspect.

Just two days later, on November 9, police arrested Muhammad Muhammad, a 44-year-old from Gombe State, in connection with a stolen Toyota Corolla LE. The car, which originally carried the license plate KBT 932 TJ, was stolen in Kano State.

Investigations revealed that the suspect changed the plate number to Adamawa JMT 98PD in an attempt to disguise ownership. He was unable to present valid documents and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department pending further investigation before prosecution in Kano.

In a separate case that same day, police at the Dan Masara checkpoint detained Suraja Gaye, 28, of Dangoli town (Kiyawa LGA), for alleged motorcycle theft. Officers said his nervous behavior during questioning led to a search that revealed inconsistencies in his story about the motorcycle’s ownership. He remains in custody while police trace the rightful owner.

Commissioner of Police CP Dahiru Muhammad praised the officers and members of the vigilante groups for their professionalism, vigilance, and cooperation. He urged them to maintain their commitment to ensuring public safety and also appealed to residents to share credible information that can assist in crime prevention.

“The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents,”
the statement concluded.
