Human Trafficking Suspect Arrested in Adamawa

Two young women in Adamawa thought they were stepping into promising opportunities, only for everything to twist into something darker. Thankfully, the story did not end there.

The Adamawa State Police Command announced on Friday morning that two female victims have been rescued and a suspected human trafficker arrested. Authorities described the incident as part of the ongoing fight against human trafficking in Adamawa, which continues to threaten vulnerable communities across the region.

According to the police, the arrest took place on November 12, 2025. Officers attached to the State Intelligence Department apprehended 40-year-old Hamza Hammantukur Isa. The suspect, a resident of Bauchi Street in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, was taken into custody after investigations linked him to a trafficking network.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, authorities explained that Isa allegedly specialized in moving young girls from Adamawa State to the Republic of Ghana. The victims were reportedly deceived with promises of well-paying jobs, only to face sexual exploitation upon arrival. This pattern reflects broader challenges connected to cross-border exploitation and forced labor risks.

The police emphasized their commitment to combating human trafficking in Adamawa through stronger intelligence operations, cross-border coordination, and encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities. Cases involving deceptive job offers, fraudulent travel plans, and sexual exploitation remain recurring issues.

Investigators believe the suspect relied heavily on trust. He allegedly targeted young girls hoping to escape poverty, offering them opportunities that sounded almost too good to be true. The police urged the public to remain cautious about similar tactics, noting that traffickers often use job promises, travel sponsorships, or quick-money schemes to lure victims.
