Ten Abducted as Bandits Attack Two Kebbi Villages

Residents of Tungar Wazga and Unguwar Chiroma in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State were thrown into panic after armed bandits stormed both settlements in coordinated night attacks, abducting at least ten people.

Eyewitnesses, however, said the number of victims may have been closer to fifteen, noting that some captives were freed after a fierce gun battle between the police, local vigilantes, and the attackers.

“I can’t say exactly how many are still held,” one local source said, “but I believe around six were rescued by the police during the exchange.”

According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, the operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer in Danko, who mobilized a joint team of officers and vigilante members after receiving reports of the assault.

Abubakar confirmed that the gunmen, believed to have crossed into Kebbi from neighboring Zamfara State, fled after sustaining injuries, abandoning six hostages in a border village called Marina.

The rescued victims, aged between 11 and 25, were given medical attention before being reunited with their families.

Police operatives are said to be combing nearby forests in search of the fleeing bandits and any remaining abductees.
