Four Injured, One Dead In Shocking Lagos Electrocution Incident
Residents say the Lagos electrocution incident happened during a chieftaincy celebration on Anjorin Street, where several canopies had been set up for guests. A truck transporting sand attempted to access a nearby estate but was blocked by one of the canopies, prompting people to try lifting it so the vehicle could pass.
Witnesses explained that as the metal frame of the canopy was lifted, it made contact with an exposed electric cable on the ground. The moment the structure touched the live wire, everything changed.
According to eyewitness Femi Ajiboye, the shock was immediate.
“The coronation anniversary had been ongoing for a week, and the celebrant decided to host his own party after receiving his title. The truck carrying sand tried to access a new estate at the end of the street but was blocked by the canopy. When people tried to lift it, they didn’t realise a naked wire was lying on the ground. The moment the frame touched the live wire, they were shocked. People only understood what had happened when they saw them collapse,” he said.
The Lagos electrocution incident brought the celebration to an abrupt halt as people fled in fear. All four victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. The truck’s motor boy, who had not been identified at the time, died shortly after arrival, while the three party guests survived and were receiving treatment.
Another resident, Olajide, recounted the panic that swept through the area. He confirmed that the deceased's relatives eventually retrieved the body for burial. A different witness recalled seeing the motor boy just 30 minutes before the Lagos electrocution incident. “He had just bought diesel at the filling station. I was shocked when I heard he had died barely thirty minutes later,” he said.
When contacted for clarification, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer said she had not received a formal briefing on the Lagos electrocution incident. According to her, the Divisional Police Officer in the area also reported that no such case had been logged at the station.
Efforts to obtain further updates through calls and messages were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
