Edo NDLEA Arrest Two Men Caught With 1,046kg Of Cannabis

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two suspects found with 1,046 kilograms of cannabis sativa. The operation adds another layer to growing efforts to curb trafficking across the state, especially as the holidays approach. The Edo NDLEA arrest has drawn attention due to the scale of the seizure.

In a statement issued in Benin City on Thursday, the state commander, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed that the suspects, 45-year-old Felix Edah and 51-year-old Lucky Abagha, were detained on November 13, 2025. He said officers intercepted their vehicles during motorized patrols along the Benin-Akure Road and Ugbogiobo Community.

Both vehicles reportedly left Uyere community in Ovia North East Local Government Area and were headed toward Benin City before they were stopped. According to Ofoyeju, the cars were seized as tools used in transporting illegal drugs. The Edo NDLEA arrest also revealed how well-organized some trafficking routes have become.

Ofoyeju explained that Edah, who hails from Delta State, was carrying 38 bags of dried cannabis weighing 494 kilograms in a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot with registration number DE311BEN. Abagha, on the other hand, had 46 bags weighing 552 kilograms in another Mercedes-Benz V-Boot registered in Lagos as JJJ 56 JW. Together, the recovered substances total 1,046 kilograms.

The suspects are now in custody at the agency’s Benin office for further questioning. Ofoyeju emphasized that investigations are ongoing and form part of broader operations aimed at dismantling drug networks in Edo State. The Edo NDLEA arrest signals the agency’s determination to intensify actions against traffickers.

He added that the NDLEA remains committed to enforcing drug laws and ensuring that traffickers have fewer opportunities to move illegal substances, particularly as the Yuletide season approaches. To strengthen community involvement, he urged residents to report suspicious activities and contribute to the nationwide fight against drug crimes.
