NDLEA Arrests Woman in Zamfara With Live Ammunition
In a significant breakthrough against the spread of illegal arms in northern Nigeria, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman in Zamfara State for allegedly transporting live ammunition intended for bandits.
The suspect was intercepted on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Tsafe–Gusau route, according to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that the woman, believed to be from the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, had concealed several rounds of live ammunition in her luggage while traveling through Tsafe Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest, Malam Garba Shehu, Chairman of Tsafe Local Government, described the incident as a major win in the state’s fight against criminal networks supplying weapons to armed groups.
“I want to appreciate the NDLEA operatives for their vigilance and dedication. This arrest has prevented dangerous ammunition from reaching criminal elements threatening peace in our communities,” Shehu stated.
He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies.
“As a local government, we will continue to provide whatever support is necessary to ensure security officers carry out their duties effectively,” he added.
Sources say the NDLEA has transferred the suspect to a secure facility for further interrogation as security agencies trace the source and destination of the recovered ammunition. Officials believe the swift action may have prevented a potential attack or resupply effort by bandits in Zamfara or neighboring states.
