Easter: Bishop Kwakpovwe Urges Political Leaders to Embrace Service, Not Self-Interest

As Christians across Nigeria marked the Easter celebration, Bishop Chris Ewvie Kwakpovwe delivered a heartfelt message urging political officeholders to view their positions as a call to service, not personal enrichment.

Bishop Kwakpovwe, who is also the publisher of the Our Daily Manna devotional, issued the statement on Monday through a press release made available to news outlets.

In his Easter sermon, he expressed concern over the country’s deepening economic crisis and the widespread suffering experienced by ordinary Nigerians.

“Our economy is failing. The masses are groaning. Families cannot feed. Youths are unemployed. Many are losing faith, not only in the system but in the message of hope we preach from our altars,” he lamented.

He emphasized that Easter is not just a celebration of resurrection but also a reminder of compassion, sacrifice, and service to others.

“This should trouble the conscience of both the pulpit and the statehouse,” he said. “Christ did not condemn the poor. He came close to them, fed them, healed them, and gave them dignity.”

To religious leaders, Bishop Kwakpovwe offered a sobering reminder: “Christ drove out the money changers but embraced the weary and downtrodden. Let us not become blind to the pain around us.”

Addressing those in government, he stressed that public office is a sacred responsibility.

“To our political leaders: the power you hold is not for personal gain. It is a sacred trust,” he stated. “As Christ gave Himself for humanity, so must you give yourselves in service to the people. Let this Easter awaken your conscience.”

Bishop Kwakpovwe concluded by calling on all Nigerians, leaders and citizens alike, to renew their commitment to compassion, justice, and nation-building during this season of reflection.
