Tunde Bakare Warns Against Tyranny, Urges President Tinubu to Embrace Inclusive Leadership

Pastor Tunde Bakare, General Overseer of The Citadel Global Community Church, has voiced concern that Nigeria may be veering toward authoritarian rule under the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his "State of the Nation" address delivered on Sunday at his church in Lagos, Bakare stated that recent actions by those in power suggest a shift toward power abuse and the erosion of constitutional governance.

He criticized what he described as a lack of humility and moral clarity among political leaders, warning that the continued marginalization of the poor could lead to social and political unrest.

“Dear Nigerians,” Bakare began, “since my address in January, the months that have followed have only reinforced the belief that those steering the course of our nation lack the humility and character required in this critical time.”

He continued, “What we’ve witnessed is not responsible governance but a troubling slide into tyranny and blatant abuse of power. Some in leadership appear intent on dismantling our political institutions and undermining the very principles of constitutional democracy.”

Highlighting the growing economic hardship and public frustration, Bakare cautioned that without urgent intervention, the anger of the impoverished could escalate into national instability.

He called on President Tinubu to seek wise counsel, practice humility in leadership, and make decisions that prioritize national healing and unity.
