Mining Shaft Collapse in Niger State Claims Lives of Two Kano Miners

A tragic incident occurred in Niger State on Sunday night when a mining shaft collapsed, leading to the deaths of two miners from Kano State.

According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, the victims—identified as Buhari and Mallam Tasiu—were working inside the pit when it caved in.

“Police officers from the Erena Division, in collaboration with local residents, responded swiftly to the scene,” Abiodun stated.
“Unfortunately, the pit had already collapsed completely by the time they arrived.”

Rescue teams worked tirelessly for several hours before recovering the bodies. The remains were subsequently transported to Zumba General Hospital for further examination.

The police have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities aim to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to identify preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
