Wisconsin Judge Accused of Obstructing ICE Arrest, Detained by Federal Authorities
Judge Hannah Dugan, a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge, was reportedly taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Friday over allegations that she obstructed federal law enforcement efforts to detain an undocumented immigrant.
According to Fox News, which cited federal law enforcement sources, Judge Dugan faces charges of obstructing an official proceeding. The charges are linked to an incident on April 18, when agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the FBI, CBP, and DEA attempted to arrest an undocumented man scheduled to appear in her courtroom.
The report alleges that Judge Dugan diverted the attention of federal agents and court security personnel by directing them toward the chief judge’s chambers. This action allegedly allowed the individual in question to exit the courthouse undetected and avoid arrest.
The undocumented individual was reportedly scheduled to appear in a criminal case, although details of the charges remain undisclosed.
Judge Dugan is expected to appear in federal court in Milwaukee as early as Friday, where she may formally respond to the charges.
Earlier this week, Judge Dugan denied local accusations of shielding the undocumented immigrant. In an article published by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday, she addressed the controversy, although further details were not disclosed at the time of this report.
