Niger State Assembly Approves ₦151.7 Billion 2025 Budget for Local Governments
The Niger State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 budget totaling ₦151,721,702,602.11 for the state’s 25 local government councils.
According to the budget breakdown, ₦96.29 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while ₦55.43 billion is set aside for capital projects.
Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Bako, explained that the committee engaged extensively with officials from the State Planning Commission and the Ministry for Local Government to ensure that the budget complied with existing financial laws and guidelines.
Bako noted that insecurity in certain areas had hindered revenue generation, which in turn led to overestimated income projections. To address this, he recommended reforms in local government revenue systems.
“We advised that councils implement efficient revenue collection mechanisms, plug leakages, and prioritize capital investment to improve the well-being of citizens,” Bako said.
Speaker of the House, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, commended the committee for its diligence and pledged to strengthen legislative oversight to ensure proper implementation of the budget.
After thorough deliberations, the House unanimously approved the budget bill.
Following the vote, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the budget for onward transmission to the Executive for final approval.
