FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Mourns Late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, describing it as akin to "the fall of one of the biggest trees in the forest of Nigeria." He noted that the retired Army General’s death is a significant loss that will be deeply felt by Nigerians.

The Minister, speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, reflected on General Useni’s impactful career during his tenure as FCT Minister from 1993 to 1998, highlighting his indelible contributions to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.  

Wike paid tribute to Useni’s illustrious career, stating: “From joining the Army at the age of 14 to serving as Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigeria Army, FCT Minister, and Senator for Plateau South, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni lived a life of service to the nation."

He further acknowledged Useni’s personality and commitment:
“He was a jolly good fellow, fondly called ‘Jerry Boy,’ who took service to the people as his number one priority. Nigerians, especially the Tarok people of Plateau State, will never forget the late General for epitomizing great virtues.”  

Wike extended his condolences to the people of Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the entire nation, emphasizing that Useni would be remembered as a patriot, peacemaker, and man of faith.

“On behalf of myself and residents of the FCT, I mourn the departure of General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a great man, a patriot, a fine military officer, a politician, a peacemaker, and a man of faith in the Almighty God. May his soul rest in peace,” Wike stated.
