Inspector General of Police Warns New Constables Against Misconduct

Newly recruited constables have been cautioned by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, about the severe consequences of unprofessional behavior or misuse of public trust.

Represented by Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed, the IGP spoke at the Passing-Out Parade in Bauchi, where 212 constables from the Gombe and Bauchi zones graduated. He highlighted the importance of their uniforms and urged the recruits to commit to professionalism and respect for human rights.

“The role of a police officer demands empathy and compassion, particularly towards the vulnerable, while maintaining firmness and fairness in all interactions,” he emphasized.

The IGP described the event as a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance national security. He encouraged the new officers to build public trust through dedication and professionalism while tackling pressing security challenges.

Ahmed Aliyu, Director of Procurement, speaking on behalf of DIG Hamisu Argungu (retired), Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), reiterated the Commission’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based career advancement system for officers in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Aliyu urged the graduates to uphold discipline, professionalism, and justice in their duties. He also assured the public that the PSC would closely monitor the officers’ conduct to ensure adherence to established rules of engagement.

“The Commission will not hesitate to sanction anyone who deviates from the principles of integrity and professionalism. At the same time, we will recognize and reward gallantry and dedication to duty,” he said.

After completing six months of rigorous training in counterterrorism, community policing, and crime prevention, the new constables are tasked with addressing critical security issues such as terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.

The PSC reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining a credible recruitment process, ensuring that only competent and qualified officers join the Force.
