Nasarawa Union Demands Immediate Payment of Arrears and Wage Increase

The Joint Union of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI) has urged the state government to address unresolved issues affecting employees in the state’s tertiary institutions.

In a letter dated January 15, 2025, and addressed to Governor Abdullahi Sule, JUNSTI demanded the immediate implementation of:

  • Promotion arrears
  • A N30,000 annual increment
  • A minimum wage of N70,500

The letter, signed by JUNSTI Chairman Gbande Samson Kale, highlighted that previous communications on these issues—sent in November 2024—had not received a response.

The union stated: "Your Excellency may recall that the union has written several letters on critical pending issues affecting the institutions."

While acknowledging that an agreement on the N70,500 minimum wage was reached between organized labor and the state government, JUNSTI noted that it had yet to be implemented.

The union emphasized the urgency of resolving these matters: "In light of the above, the union demands the implementation of these issues alongside the January 2025 salaries to avert industrial harmony."

JUNSTI warned that failure to meet these demands could result in industrial action, potentially disrupting academic and administrative activities at the affected institutions.

As of the time of this report, the state government had not responded to the union's letter.
