Bauchi Building Collapse Leaves Seven Workers Injured

A quiet afternoon in Bauchi turned frantic on Monday when part of an unfinished storey building came crashing down on Sir Kashim Ibrahim Street. Witnesses said the structure gave way around 3 p.m., trapping seven construction workers beneath the rubble and sending people in the area running to help before emergency teams arrived.

The Bauchi building collapse drew immediate attention from motorists and residents who tried to dig through the debris with whatever they had. Many described the scene as chaotic, the sort of moment that leaves your heart racing even if you are nowhere near the danger.

According to Dauda Pali, Deputy Director of the Bauchi State Fire Service, his team moved the moment a distress call came in.
“By 3 p.m., we were alerted to a building collapse at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Street, GRA Bauchi. When we arrived, we verified the report and commenced rescue efforts without delay,” he said.

The rescue operation lasted several tense minutes, but all seven trapped workers were eventually pulled out alive. Each one was taken to the hospital for treatment, and officials say they are undergoing medical care.

Authorities are now opening an investigation to determine what triggered the structural failure. Early conversations point to possible engineering lapses, though nothing has been confirmed.

Pali emphasized that incidents like the Bauchi building collapse underline why construction safety and adherence to building standards matter. He urged contractors to prioritise proper technical procedures to prevent future disasters.

As the city processes the scare, residents hope the investigation leads to better oversight and improved safety practices across construction sites in Bauchi.
