UNIJOS Students Killed in Tragic Nighttime Road Crash
A trailer reportedly lost control on Zaria Road in Jos in the early hours of Thursday December 11, 2025 and slammed into a bus carrying University of Jos students returning from a nighttime outing. At least eight students lost their lives.
Eyewitnesses said the bus driver also died on the spot. Two students who survived were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
According to accounts from the scene, the trailer was moving at high speed near the Zaria Road Stadium when its brakes failed. It veered into one of the two hired buses transporting the students. The impact forced the driver to lose control, sending the bus crashing into an electric pole just before the Farin Gada bridge.
One of the survivors described the moment plainly, the way people do when shock strips things down to their simplest form. He said the collision tore the bus apart, killing eight occupants instantly before responders arrived to recover the bodies and help the injured.
He added that those sitting at the back felt less of the direct impact, which may have saved their lives. The students had been returning home in two buses around 2 a.m. when the disaster happened.
“It was so sudden. We didn’t even see the trailer. After the hit, everyone was shouting, then the crash happened,” the survivor recalled.
