Two Dead, Three Injured in Meiran Road Truck Crash

Two people were killed and three others seriously injured in a fatal traffic accident at Iyana Meiran along Meiran Road, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The incident occurred near the Primary Health Centre in Meiran when a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck reportedly suffered brake failure while moving at high speed. The truck rammed into multiple vehicles, triggering a chaotic and devastating scene.

According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the truck collided with:
• Four commercial tricycles (Marwa) with registration numbers KTU 360 QN, LND 444 QL, LSR 444 QN, and EKY 122 QP
• One commercial minibus (Korope) with registration number EPP 541 YF

The impact crushed the vehicles, trapping commuters inside twisted metal and debris. Passersby and emergency responders rushed to help as the scene quickly became overwhelming.

LASTMA officials, with support from members of the public, carried out rescue operations. The injured victims were taken to Mobonke Hospital on Meiran Road for urgent medical treatment.

The bodies of the two deceased were recovered and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force. Security personnel from the Meiran Division were also deployed to secure the area and assist with recovery efforts.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Dangote Silo Mixer Truck fled the scene after the crash.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the victims and their families. He warned drivers, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure proper vehicle maintenance before embarking on any journey.

He stressed that excessive speed and poor mechanical condition remain major contributors to road accidents in Lagos. Bakare-Oki urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, prioritize roadworthiness, and drive with caution to protect lives on the road.
