Five RSU Students Rescued After Abduction In Rivers State

There was a bit of relief in Rivers State on Thursday morning after police confirmed that the five students abducted from Rivers State University had been rescued. For days, families and classmates had been anxious, waiting for any update. The breakthrough finally came during a coordinated operation in the Rumudogo 2 community in Emuoha Local Government Area.

SP Grace Iringe Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, said the rescue was carried out by tactical units working with other security agencies and members of the local community. The students were identified as Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious, and London Sampson.

The police noted that the group had been taken from their off campus residence by suspected cult members. All five were found alive and have since been taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Iringe Koko added that efforts are underway to track and arrest the abductors who fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju called for sustained cooperation between the public, local security groups, and law enforcement. He warned the culprits that they will face the full weight of the law once apprehended and reassured residents that their safety remains a top priority.

The abduction took place early Tuesday at an off campus home linked to one of RSU’s satellite campuses in Emuoha. It happened less than a week after another apartment was attacked, during which students reported stolen belongings and one person was injured while trying to protect a female student. A guard dog was also shot during that incident.

These repeated security breaches have sparked fear among students, many of whom are now asking to be relocated to the university’s main campus for their safety.
