Sagamu Benin Expressway Accident Kills Two

A tragic collision on the Sagamu Benin Expressway left two people dead on Saturday, sparking new concerns about wrong way driving on major Nigerian highways. The crash happened on the Ososa stretch of the road in Ogun State.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. He identified the vehicles involved as a blue Benz truck with registration number AKD 115YL and a yellow Toyota Hiace bus with registration BDG 274YG.

Witnesses told officials that the bus was driving against traffic when it collided head on with the oncoming truck. The impact killed two people, while several others were injured. At the moment, TRACE has not released the exact number of injured passengers.

Akinbiyi said the victims who sustained injuries received initial treatment at the scene, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital morgue.

Both vehicles were later cleared off the road and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Obalende Division in Ijebu Ode for further investigation.
