Seven Journalists Die in NUJ Bus Crash in Gombe
A tragic road accident involving a bus belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has claimed the lives of at least seven journalists in Gombe State.
The NUJ bus crash in Gombe occurred on Monday night as the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony held in the Gombe South Senatorial District.
The victims were part of a group that had travelled to celebrate the wedding of a colleague who works with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Confirming the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Gombe State Sector Commander, Samson Kaura, said a total of 11 people were involved in the accident.
“From the information available to us, 11 people were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven of them died on the spot, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Kaura stated.
He added that preliminary findings suggest the crash was a single-vehicle accident, likely caused by a burst tyre.
The injured victims were rescued and taken to medical facilities for treatment, while the deceased were evacuated from the scene.
