FCT Police Arrest Man Seeking Ammunition for Zamfara Bandits

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allegedly trying to secure ammunition on behalf of bandit groups operating in Zamfara State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, Ahmed Abubakar, was picked up by officers from the Mabushi Division on December 7 around 3:30 p.m. He lives in Anguwan Dodo, Gwagwalada, but is originally from Gusau. According to the sources, he approached a member of the Nigerian Army, Cpl. Yusuf Mohammed, and attempted to get help acquiring 1,000 rounds of ammunition in exchange for cash.

Investigators later said Abubakar admitted he was acting under instructions from his uncle, Ahmed Yakubu, who is now on the run. One source explained that Abubakar claimed his uncle sent him to purchase the ammunition and transport it back to Zamfara.

During the arrest, officers recovered the sum of ₦170,100, believed to be part of the money set aside for the illegal transaction.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that Abubakar is currently in custody while efforts intensify to track down the uncle. A police source said the suspect has been cooperative, and investigators are making progress in identifying other possible links in the network.

Authorities also assured residents that they remain committed to dismantling criminal operations both within the FCT and across neighboring states.
