61-Year-Old Nigerian Nursing Assistant Detained Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of Patients in California
A 61-year-old Nigerian man, Kayode Agbolade Ogunba, has been detained by authorities in Santa Barbara County, California, over allegations of sexually abusing patients while employed at a nursing facility.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began in early November 2025 after a nursing facility in Goleta reported that Ogunba, a licensed nursing assistant, allegedly abused two patients while on duty.
Officials stated that Ogunba has been linked to similar allegations in the Los Angeles area and is believed to have previously worked in other U.S. states, including Texas and Washington.
Following the investigation, Ogunba was arrested on January 20, 2026, in Santa Barbara County. He faces multiple felony charges, including sexual penetration, lewd or lascivious acts by a caretaker against a dependent person involving force, and elder abuse. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual battery of a dependent adult.
Investigators disclosed that Ogunba may have used the name “Kay” in both personal and professional settings.
He is currently being held at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail on a bail set at $100,000.
The Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with relevant information regarding the case to contact law enforcement.
