Student Reportedly Shot as Troops Passed Through Benue Community
A student of NKST Secondary School in Sai, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, has reportedly been shot during the movement of Nigerian Army personnel through the area.
The victim, identified as Tsavnav Gabriel, was said to have been hit by a bullet on Wednesday night as soldiers passed through Sai after escorting the body of a man allegedly killed by suspected armed herdsmen in Tse Jato.
Residents claim the troops were returning from the operation when the incident occurred. The student was later rushed to a clinic in Sai, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Family sources said the worsening security situation in the area had previously forced the household to relocate at some point, reflecting the broader tension communities in Katsina-Ala have been grappling with.
Locals are now calling on the Nigerian Army to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and take responsibility if wrongdoing is established.
As of the time of reporting, the exact condition of the student had not been officially confirmed, though sympathizers have expressed hope for his recovery.
Spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she could not immediately confirm the incident.
