Women Flog Man Accused of Repeatedly Assaulting His Wife in Cameroon
A man accused of repeatedly assaulting his wife was publicly flogged by women in his community in Bonaberi, Bojongo neighbourhood of Douala, Cameroon.
According to reports, the man, a father popularly nicknamed “Father Lion” by residents, was known for frequently beating his wife in their home. The women in the neighbourhood reportedly intervened after hearing the woman screaming during another alleged assault.
A video circulating online shows several women surrounding the man and striking him with sticks. In the footage, the man is seen wielding a machete and warning the women to stay away in an attempt to defend himself.
Moments later, another man arrived at the scene, disarmed him by wresting the machete away, and struck him with it. After the machete was taken from him, the women reportedly intensified the beating, verbally humiliating him as he attempted to flee.
The man eventually escaped by running into a nearby hut to avoid further assault.
The incident has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many users debating community intervention in cases of domestic violence and the absence of formal law enforcement action.
