Nigerian Fashion Designer Shot Dead in Brooklyn Nightclub
Sheriff Shittu, a 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer based in the United States, was shot and killed during a violent altercation at a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York.
The incident occurred in the early hours of February 14 at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge, located in the East Flatbush neighborhood. Authorities say the shooting happened around 4:25 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, security personnel were escorting a disruptive patron out of the club following a disturbance inside the venue. As he was being led off the premises, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and began shooting.
Witnesses claimed the individual had earlier behaved erratically and allegedly made unwanted advances toward female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which reportedly sparked a heated confrontation.
Shittu had attended the event with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Speaking after the incident, Fawaz described the moment as devastating, recalling his attempts to get his brother to respond after he was shot.
Another relative, Salem Shittu, questioned how a firearm was able to pass through security checks at the venue, raising concerns about possible lapses in screening procedures. He suggested that stricter security measures might have prevented the tragedy.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large as investigations continue.
Shittu was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Family members described him as ambitious and creative, saying he had moved to the United States to grow his fashion brand and build a better future.
