Building Associated with Suspected Cultists Destroyed by the Edo Government

The Edo State Government has confirmed the demolition of a building in Amagba, Oredo Local Government Area, where two suspected members of the Aye confraternity were arrested in connection with recent cult-related killings.

The development was announced on Thursday in Benin by Dr. Patrick Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

According to Ebojele, seven individuals have been linked to the recent wave of cult violence in the state. Two suspects have been apprehended, while five others believed to be members of the Aye cult group remain at large.

He stated that the demolition was carried out by a Special Security Squad operating under the code name “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers in Edo,” led by the governor’s Chief Security Officer.

Ebojele emphasized that the state’s anti-cultism law would be strictly enforced as part of ongoing efforts to stamp out cult-related activities.

“Gov Okpebholo has given that mandate and it must be followed thoroughly, no matter who is involved. No one is above the law. Those who escaped arrest have been declared wanted,” he said.

He further disclosed that the Special Security Squad also sealed a residence in the Upper Uwa area of Benin, described as the last known address of Etiosa Akhiombare Joshua, also known as Baba Josh.

Joshua is alleged to be a member of the Maphite Confraternity and is accused of masterminding and financing a recent killing at Wire Road.
